Exhibited in OVATION, Melbourne, “Juxtaposition Between the Old and New” is a series shot by Augustine Yuen.
“Juxtapostion Between the Old and New” is a photo series exploring the phenomenon that is that while a popular destination for the older generation, China was never a vacation spot of choice to the millennials. Shooting in Zhang Jia Jie, China, Augustine wanted to capture the contrasting relationship between the old and new within a single composition, showing the modernity of human infrastructure sitting in complement with the natural landscape. Everything was shot in black and white as a training to identify light as the sole medium; to work out how light falls on a subject and how to adapt to varying amounts of shadow.
